Announcement of legislative changes February & March 2024
Please note that these are only legislative changes that affect the compositions and/or labelling of products produced by our Ghent and/or Putten production sites.
Lignosulphonate
What changes?
- The authorisation of lignosulphonate for use in animal feed has been renewed.
- The declaration and conditions of use have changed. These are listed in Table 1.

Transition periods?
See Table 2 for applicable transition dates for production and labelling, placing on the market and exhausting of existing stocks of lignosulphonate.
Trouw Nutrition Benelux will label premixes and complementary feeds containing lignosulphonate according to the new rules no later than per the deadline of 21 September 2024. Once the premixes with the new declaration are incorporated into (finished) products, they must also have the new declaration.

What does it mean for you as a customer?
Declaration of lignosulphonate - because a legal maximum level has been set - is now mandatory for compound feeds. Compound feeds containing lignosulphonate must therefore now declare lignosulphonate according to the new rules.
Corrigendum for calcium acetate, lactic acid and calcium lactate
What changes?
- The correction concerns the following technological additives belonging to the functional group of preservatives:
- Lactic acid (1a270)
- Calcium lactate (1a327)
- Calcium acetate (1a263)
- For calcium acetate, the mention of iron has been removed
- Lactic acid and calcium lactate should now not be used in feed for ruminants without a functional rumen.
- Calcium lactate is in the product range of Trouw Nutrition Benelux.
Transition periods?
No transitional periods apply.
What does it mean for you as a customer?
Calcium lactate should no longer be used in feed for ruminants without a functional rumen.
